Alone, never.
It’s not a place. Places are points in space, surrounded by the universe.
It’s not a time. Time is a march, its passage heralded by drumbeat footfalls.
It’s not a state of mind. The mind cannot create isolation. Thoughts butt in, make demands, cause detours.
Solitude is a vapor, drifting, billowing, translucent. Visible but intangible.
You can never go home again.
You never left in the first place.
Even if you achieved total and perfect solitude,
Would you stay longer than a few minutes?

We want assurances
before we commit.
We test the water
before plunging in.
We sniff
before we taste.
Yet even a familiar road
can hide a mystery.
We cannot perceive what lies
beyond the next curve.
Nor can we expect
what waits on the
downslope of a hill.
Even if the road is straight

and the day sunny,
we cannot compress the distance
and recognize the far point on the horizon.
We are made with limitations
so that we can overcome them.

Second Beach Sunset - Olympic National Park (di kevin mcneal)
What does it feel like to fly over planet Earth?
A time-lapse taken from the front of the International Space Station as it orbits our planet at night. This movie begins over the Pacific Ocean and continues over North and South America before entering daylight near Antarctica. Visible cities, countries and landmarks include (in order) Vancouver Island, Victoria, Vancouver, Seattle, Portland, San Fransisco, Los Angeles. Phoenix. Multiple cities in Texas, New Mexico and Mexico. Mexico City, the Gulf of Mexico, the Yucatan Peninsula, Lightning in the Pacific Ocean, Guatemala, Panama, Columbia, Ecuador, Peru, Chile, and the Amazon. Also visible is the earths ionosphere (thin yellow line) and the stars of our galaxy.
The original data is from NASA’s “The Gateway To Astronaut Photography of Earth”.
Then the fragile mist melted away altogether, revealing lush beauty among the stark and craggy outcroppings.
